SBE is aware of the CO2 emissions generated by our activities. This is why we constantly strive to reduce our CO2 emissions in both our operations and our projects. SBE is aiming for certification on ladder 3 of the CO2 Performance Ladder to help us achieve this.
The CO2 Performance Ladder is an initiative of the Foundation for Climate Friendly Procurement and Business (SKAO) and was created to stimulate companies to act in a CO2-conscious manner. In particular when it comes to saving energy, efficient use of materials, and the use of sustainable energy.
To gain insight into our CO2 emissions, our emissions in 2020 were mapped and translated into a carbon footprint. This report includes our various energy flows and the consumption of our office buildings.
The report Emissie inventaris 2020 + energiebeoordeling can be found below.
Currently, we do not have any projects underway with a CO2 contract award privilege.
SBE has formulated the following objective to reduce CO2 emissions based on its CO2 emissions inventory:
|Scope||Reductie Ten opzichte van 2020 per FTE|
|Scope 3 (business travel)||1%||2%%||3%||4%|
*By switching to green electricity in the Sint-Niklaas office, we want to achieve a 50% reduction in scope 2 emissions by 2025 compared to 2020. We do expect an increase in electricity consumption in the coming years because more and more electric vehicles will be leased and employees will be able to charge them at home. When they use gray electricity to do so, there will be a sharp increase in scope 2 emissions.
To achieve this objective, we are taking the following measures:
- Making our company fleet more sustainable
- Encouraging and facilitating home-working when possible
- CO2 reduction in projects via the Green Deal Calculator
- Buying green electricity for our owned offices

The initiatives in which SBE participates are further explained in the document: Overzicht initiatieven. This document can also be found on SBE’s SKAO page.
